Mehari Sequar Gallery ~ Archival
Three photo montage images chosen for this archival project. These images are of my Flower Alchemy project, where I took photos of flowers, evoking their gifts to humanity through their color and design and merged them with images of people and icons during the pandemic to bring peace and harmony.
As a society, we have been forced to confront the effects of the deep racial injustices the United States is responsible for upholding. Freefall is a response to these injustices as we as a country face a global pandemic and economic disparities. We bear witness to racial inequalities engrained in our civil systems that fail to fulfill their function to nurture and protect our communities.
However, in the words of poet Maya Angelou, “Still [we] rise.”
This archival collection showcases the recent creativity, vibrance, and solidarity of our global communities to reject racial injustices. As we pay homage to the many named and unnamed victims of state violence, this space also serves as a beacon of hope for our collective futures.
