Plant monotypes

In this series, I used the essence of plants as a printing tool ~ their shape, tannin, intricate pattern, texture, and naturally grounding energy. On a traditional letterpress, I incorporated fresh grasses and herbs and occasionally leaves. The tannin, a natural brown hue, was released as they were run through the press creating wild and natural contributions. The paper is BFK Reeves cotton.

Please contact Karin Edgett to purchase an original plant monotype, visit the artist studio/gallery, or to host a show and artist talk.

Bamboo from my garden was inked and rolled through a printing press with inked plates on BFK Reeves cotton paper. The result is in as much relief as it is in color. Size is 11x14, It’s mounted to a wooden cradle board and framed in white wood.

“When I saw this painting, it stopped me and I felt my eyes go ‘soft’ in vision and just stood there enjoying the change in me. I seemed to create through my breath , feeling relaxed and mysterious.

Because I could, I changed the direction of the image, going from vertical to horizontal — I saw and felt the image in a totally different way — each turn of the view, stirred a unique sense of how change of view can reva instantly a deep change internally.

Which is why original art is so timeless in reflecting our inner selves.”

Thank you Karin!!

Weed Array 2/2

Weed Array 2/2

The purchasers of my letterpress print of grasses has asked that i make the print available online for others, so I’m sharing it with the public. These are archival prints and a few other objects that may be of interest. Please feel free to ask me if there are any questions you may have.

The original print is “weed array” because these grasses were found growing as weeds, laden with green seeds. They are rolled with inks and printed between two pieces of cotton paper on a letterpress I used at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria Virginia.

The prints may be found at Fine Art America

Enjoy!
